Winter Yin Rejuvenation
We’ve arrived at the threshold of another year in the calendar. We also just crossed the threshold of Winter Solstice which marked the longest night and shortest day of the year. There was an invitation in there for us…did you hear it? Mother Nature and the sun have invited us to accompany them on the slow journey from the darkness of winter to the full light of summer. The slow and steady way. Yet sometimes with the busy-ness of the holidays, wrapping up the old year and jump starting into the new, we can get swept up in the whirlwind and miss the opportunity to turn inward and hear what the body, mind and soul are whispering. It’s ok, pause right now and be curious and check in…
Do you feel bright and sparkly? Or a little sluggish and dull?
Are you warm and juicy in your joints and tissues? Or are they popping and crackling with a little achiness?
What about your digestion? Is there a healthy fire in the belly? Or is your appetite erratic or low? Do you have cravings, gas, bloating or acid reflux?
How about your mind? Clear and focused? Or a little foggy and slow? Or maybe there's a chasing shiny bright lights like a game of whack a mole?
How are your emotions? Have you made a little space to feel it all and let any waves of the holiday season (or 2024) digest? Or are you feeling a little full and stretched to capacity? Are you feeling the weight of life transitions or losses you’re navigating taking up space in your heart, womb or throat?
And your sweet soul. What is she whispering? Have you slowed long enough to listen… really listen and tend?
Whatever you notice is not right or wrong, good or bad. It’s just information. It’s your body speaking to you–from a place of love and compassion trying to get your attention either way. It's not uncommon after the holiday rush to possibly feel both a restlessness and a heaviness at the same time. Anxiety and insomnia tend to be common this time of year as well. Through an Ayurvedic lens, we might say that the elements of air and space are in excess around us and influencing the mind and body too. You might feel like the winds are strong and you’re getting swept away or pulled up by the roots.
It’s why I decided to offer RECLAIMING CENTER–it’s a chance to tune in to the season and cycles and get curious about what kind of rhythms and rituals you want to create this year. It’s a gentle yet powerful embodied approach. The last few years have been a wild ride and I have really been held by some powerful tools and practices. And here are a few things that I’ve learned through my own practice, lived experiences, and guiding women of all ages over the years…
When life gets disrupted, you lose someone or something you love, your heart gets broken, or you’re trying to navigate the disorientation and initiation of the perimenopause/menopause stage of life, going back to basics and keeping it simple is powerful medicine.
There are many avenues to health, healing and wholeness, but I have found that the time-tested wisdom and practices of yoga, breathwork, meditation, and Ayurvedic self-care seem to offer a pathway to presence–to receiving and allowing space to discover center again and again and again…through every season, every cycle, and every life transition.
I evolve faster in the community. I think we all evolve faster in community. Humans are designed for connection and it’s easier to lean into what we desire when we keep good company while we do it.
Ancient wisdom and modern research tell us that when women gather, their mental health drastically improves. I have found this to be so true!!!
An embodied approach to Ayurveda and understanding our own nervous systems helps us remember our own inner wisdom and eventually reveals our grandmother’s grandmother’s wisdom and way of caring for ourselves and each other that’s been hidden for far too long.
